A Finished Christmas Present and The Blanket Stitch Pattern

Doily BlanketI finished my second Christmas present of the year this morning! Some people think I’m nuts thinking about Christmas already, but hey, when you hand make everyone’s gifts every year, you gotta start early. This year, I’m doing blankets, so starting in January was a necessity.

For the blanket, I used my very favorite pattern, Doily Baby Blanket by Red Heart. This is actually the third one I’ve made using that pattern and I’ll probably make more over my life. This one is going to one of my aunt and uncle. I hope they like it. Unfortunately, the colorway I chose didn’t turn out exactly as I had hoped, but it isn’t terrible. I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn in Pasha for the main body color.

Doily Blanket 2I’ve been working on another blanket. This one isn’t as colorful as the Doily Blanket, but I’m a sucker for Heather colors and texture. The stitch is called The Blanket Stitch. I have the pattern for the size blanket I am making and I will put it below for anyone who would like it. I haven’t decided who it’s for yet, but I’m thinking maybe one of my uncles.

Here’s a picture of the blanket in progress to give you an idea of the amazing amount of texture in this stitch.

Blanket Stitch BlanketHere’s the pattern for the blanket I’m making:

Materials:

Caron Simply Soft in Grey Heather (I’m not sure how many skeins yet)

I9/5.5mm Hook

Pattern:

Ch 109

Row 1: 2DC in 4th ch from hook, skip 2 chains, *(sc, 2DC)all in the next chain, skip 2 chains** Repeat from * to ** across! school in last chain. Ch 2, turn.

Row 2: 2DC in first stitch, skip 2 stitches, *(sc, 2DC)all in next stitch, skip 2 stitches** Repeat from * to ** across! DC in last st. Ch 2, turn.

Repeat row 2 until desired length.

Basically, after the first row, you’re skipping all DC stitches and putting a sc and 2dc in each sc across. You can always leave me a comment if that’s confusing to you.

Until later!
