Triple Double With a Twist Baby Blanket

I was at cheer practice with my daughter two weeks ago and a friend of mine asked me if I could make her a baby blanket for a baby shower. As usual, I said I could. She sent me a photo of the baby’s curtains to try to match yarn with. There was one big problem with the photo she sent me…it wasn’t taken in natural light, so the colors weren’t true. I finally went to Hobby Lobby with the yarn colors in mind. One was an obvious earthy sage color, the other was obviously brown, but the third color was some sort of blue, definitely not a normal blue or even a navy blue.  I figured it out; there was a blue diaper that matched what the curtains were supposed to look like! Woohoo!

Anyway, here’s what the finished blanket looks like:

If you’d like the pattern, here it is!

Triple Double With a Twist Baby Blanket

  • 3 skeins of Baby Bee Yarn (Green, Blue, and Brown, 1 skein each)
  • I/9 – 5.5mm Hook
  • Tapestry Needle (for weaving in any ends)
  • Scissors

  • Ch 3 counts as a stitch, never work your first sc in the very first st
  • Twist: yo, insert hook from front to back in skipped sc, yo, pull forward wrapping yarn in front of your three dc, yo, pull through 2 stitches, yo, pull through last 2 stitches.

With first color, Ch 135 (or multiples of 4 + 3)

  1. Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across
  2. Ch 3, *skip next stitch, dc in each of the next three stitches, twist,* continue to last stitch, dc in last st. Turn.
  3. Ch 1, sc in each stitch across.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until desired length. I did 2 repeats in each color and then 7 groups of the 3 colors to complete my blanket (I hope that makes sense to you)! For my border, I just sc around putting three dc in each corner and then (ch 4, skip 2 stitches, sl stitch in next st)around for a simple border.

Let me know if you have any questions!
