Think Spring Baby Blanket Pattern

Remember this blanket?

I promised you all a pattern for it, so here it is:

Materials:

  • Worsted Weight Yarn (1 skein for your main color and then any scraps you have lying around for your accent colors)
  • H/8 – 5.00mm hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle (for weaving in any ends)

Notes:

  • You can adjust the size of the blanket easily, just by increasing the number of squares you make for the middle. I used 36 squares.

Directions:

  • For Middle Squares:
  1. With accent color, ch 3, join to form a ring (or use magic ring, whatever you prefer), ch 3, 2dc, ch 3, 3dc, ch 3, 3dc, ch 3, 3dc, ch 3, join to top of beginning ch 3. Now you have the center of your square. Fasten off.
  2. With main color, join in any ch 3 from previous round, ch 3, (2dc, ch3, 3dc) all in the same space, ch 1, *(3dc, ch 3, 3dc) all in next ch space, ch 1** repeat from * to ** twice more, join to beginning ch 3. Fasten off
  3. With another accent color, join, ch 1, ch in each stitch around making sure to put 1 sc in each ch 1 space and 5 sc in each ch 3 (corner) space. Join. Fasten off.

Continue making squares until you have as many as desired.

Attach squares together by single crocheting through the back loops of each square or any way you wish.

  • For Border 1:
  1. With main color, I attached at a point not quite in the corner because I wanted to leave those blank for my granny square border, this round is basically a set up for it. Ch 1, sc in first st and in next 2 stitches, ch 1, Skip 1, (3sc, ch 1, skip 1)repeat as evenly as possible until you get to a corner where you’ll skip 2 and ch 3, then move to your next side repeating the (3sc, ch 1, skip 1) on your next side. Repeat all the way around.
  2. In ch 1 space, ch 3, 2dc, ch 1, (3dc, ch 1)in next ch 1 space and in each space across. In your corner ch 3 spaces, you will do (3dc, ch 3, 3dc), then ch 1 and go back across your next side using (3dc, ch 1)in each space.
  • For Last Border:
  1. For the last border, I just used the linen stitch around alternating between my main color and scrap colors.linen stitch is just (sc, ch 1)around, doing  (sc, ch 3, sc) in each corner.

Let me know if I’ve confused the heck out of you at all! I hope you enjoy this pattern!

  1. I’m a newbie with crocheting & I’ve already purchased category 3 baby yarn for a baby blanket I saw, but fell in love with this one…..So I’m going to try this instead, any advise or adjustments for softer, lighter weight yarn??

    • I can’t think of any adjustments besides maybe a smaller hook size, maybe a “G”. Other than that, this pattern is pretty adaptable as far as the finished size, so I say play around and have fun with it!
