Lotus Flower Afghan

This blanket was a random, spur of the moment design using some leftover bulky yarn I got on clearance at Joann Fabrics about 8 months ago! I don’t work with bulky weight yarn often, so this was a treat. If you need a quick gift, this blanket would be perfect!


I had a heck of a time trying to get a decent photo of this blanket because the yarn is more of a fuchsia pink so it either came out super antique looking or so bright that looking at the photos literally hurt your eyes. So, I apologize ahead of time for my very terrible photos!


Lotus Flower Afghan


Materials:

  • Approximately 800 Yards of Bulky (5) Weight Yarn
  • L Hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle


Special Stitches:

  • V-Stitch: (DC, ch1, DC) in indicated stitch
  • Cluster: *YO, insert hook in specified stitch, draw up a loop, YO, draw through 2 loops, repeat from * in same stitch, YO and draw through all three loops
  • Cluster Shell: In indicated stitch, (Cluster, ch 1)twice, cluster in same stitch


Directions:


Ch 99

Row 1: DC in 4th ch from hook, *ch 1, skip next ch, DC in next ch,** repeat from *to** across, ending with a DC in the last ch, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, SC in first DC, *ch 2, skip next DC and next ch-1 space, V-stitch in next DC, ch 2, skip next ch-1 space and DC, SC in next ch-1 space, ** repeat from *to** across, ending with a SC in top of beginning ch, turn.
Row 3: Ch 4, *Cluster-shell in ch-2 space of V-stitch, ch 1,** repeat from *to** across, dtr in last SC, turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, SC, skip next ch-1 space, *ch 1, SC in next ch-1 space** repeat from *to** across, SC in beginning ch-4.
Row 5: Ch 3, DC in next ch-1 space, *ch-1, DC in next ch-1 space** repeat from *to** across, DC in last SC.
Repeat Row 2-5 until desired length, ending with a Row 2. Fasten off.
Border:
Join yarn with a SC in 3rd stitch from any corner.
Round 1: SC around edge in multiples of 6, putting 3 SC in each corner (corner stitches are not counted as part of the sets of 6). Join with a sl st.
Round 2: Sl st to next SC, ch 1, SC in same stitch, *ch 2, skip 2 SC, (SC, ch 5, SC) in corner stitch, **ch 2, skip 2 SC, SC in next stitch, ch 3, skip 2 SC, SC in next stitch, repeat from ** to 2 stitches from corner, repeat from * around. Join with a sl st. TURN
Round 3: Sl st in next ch-3 space, ch 3, (2 DC Cluster, ch 3, 3 DC Cluster)in same ch 3 space, *(3 DC Cluster, ch 3, 3 DC Cluster)in each ch 3 space to corner, (3 DC Cluster, ch 3, 3 DC Cluster, ch 3, 3 DC Cluster)in corner space** repeat from *to** around, sl st to first Cluster. TURN
Round 4: Sl st to next 3 DC Cluster, sl st to next ch 3 space, [(SC, ch 2,)4 times, SC]in each ch-3 space around, join with a sl st. Fasten off.
